AW. I think Ginny is sweet and that's kinda the reason why she said that? I don't think she was being intentionally hateful at all, I think she's sheltered and not aware of how privileged she is as a straight person.
(BTW I had this random thought, and I wonder if there are fics like that BECAUSE THERE SHOULD BE. What if MM had the one night stand with Ruby instead of Whale. OMG. It would way more plausible chemistry-wise, and it would accent the connection they had but didn't remember, and EVERYTHING. And you just know it would be a huge frakking controversy. But her one night stand with a guy is just a let-me-punch-you-for-sleeping-with-my-wife comic relief. *sigh*)
BUT BUT BUT... YOU NEED TO WATCH THE L WORD. :D You can say it is the topic, but it isn't the whole point at all, it's simply because it's a very close group of friends who are also lesbians. :) They do have straight friends too. It actually reminds me of the BtVS group of friends, except reversed sexuality-wise. So that would be like saying that on BtVS (or on pretty much every tv show ever, even Glee) "being straight is the topic". They just kinda... live and have relationships, and it's never like "OMG they have LESBIAN relationships", because it's just beyond natural that they do. It's soooo refreshing to see actually. :D And I would definitely say that this is exactly what The L Word is: "I want it to be something that 'just' happens, because that's exactly what it is." ALSO, CHARACTERS. YOU CAN TRUST ME ON THAT. :D
